Alaska Council for Exceptional Children is set up for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes to advance the education of children and youth with exceptionalities and to establish and administer programs and activities for the education of its members.

About CEC

Our professional organization is awesome!!! Not only does CEC has 17 divisions which will keep you current on latest research, best practices and current trends, they also have many publications, resources and professional devlopment opportunities. As an educator and  life long learner chances are you will never run out of information about special learners with your valuable membership to CEC. Finally, CEC develops the national standards which colleges and universities teach to earn their National Council of Accredidation for Teacher Education (NCATE), the standard of excellence in teacher preparation.

Yes I Can Award

Nominations are now open. The Yes I Can! Awards were established to honor children and youth with disabilities who have excelled. Thousands of children and youth have been recognized since the program’s inception in 1982. Each year, CEC selects approximately 27 winners for their outstanding achievements in one of nine categories: Academics, Arts, Athletics, Community Service, Employment, Extracurricular Activities, Independent Living Skills, Self-Advocacy, Technology
